Moral fiber strength is the definition of character. Character is “the excellence of moral beings,” according to Tozer. Character is what makes a man great, just as purity is what makes gold great and beauty is what makes art great. Honesty, morality, and generosity are qualities that distinguish people of character. Character attributes like “woman of integrity” and “man of principle” are statements. Moral deficit is a lack of character, and people with poor character often conduct in a dishonest, immoral, and uncharitable manner.
Character is the culmination of an individual’s attitude, beliefs, goals, aspirations, and behaviors. It’s important to keep in mind that character is evaluated based on overall patterns rather than a select few noteworthy incidents. We have to consider life as a totality. For instance, despite his occasional transgressions, King David was a man of excellent character. Furthermore, despite his one noble deed, King Ahab was an all-around horrible man. The Bible describes a number of persons as possessing noble character, including Job, Hanani, David, and Ruth. The moral excellence that persisted in these people’s lives set them apart.
Our decisions shape and mold our character. Daniel made the moral decision to “resolve not to defile himself” while he was in Babylon, and this was a crucial step in helping the young man develop an unquestionable integrity. Our decisions are therefore influenced by our character. “The upright follow their integrity as a guide.” Our moral fiber will shield us from sin and enable us to withstand life’s storms.
The Lord wants us to become people of character. “The LORD tests the heart, but the crucible is for silver and the furnace is for gold.” The sanctification process carried out by the Holy Spirit produces godly character. A believer’s character is how Jesus consistently shows up in his daily life. God grants purity of heart, which becomes purity in deed. “We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope” refers to the fact that God occasionally uses difficulties to fortify character. When His children develop their moral character, the Lord is happy. “You are pleased with integrity and you test the heart.”
By managing our thoughts, putting Christian values into practice, guarding our emotions, and associating with moral people, we may cultivate character. Characteristic men and women will be an inspiration to others and their impeccable reputation will be obvious to everybody.
