The narrative of Gaius Cassius Longinus, a battle-hardened Roman centurion tasked with watching over the crucified Jesus, is told in Lonignus: Book I Of The Merlin Factor. However, Longinus ensures Jesus’s death by stabbing him in the ribs with his spear as he is watching over him. Though it is a small deed, it alters his life irrevocably. Following that terrible day, Longinus leaves Rome, barely avoiding the Roman priests who wish to own the spear and its purported power. From the centurion’s infatuation for the prostitute Irena to his occult studies with the Druids of Gaul, Longinus chronicles his life. However, it also shows Longinus’s deep spiritual awakening, which he experienced through his study of the Druids and the spear that talks to him in a Jesus-voice.
